Australia trip 2013. Week 1, visiting Gold Coast

One week of sand, surf and (some) sun.

Gold Coast, Queensland on a hazy day.

Same stretch of beach on a clearer day. The yellow hut on stilts is the life guard station.

However, the life guard is not watching the entire beach, just a portion that is marked by two red and yellow flags, designating an area about 50 meters wide between which swimmers are encouraged to swim for safety purposes. The yellow flag in the centre is cautioning about surf conditions.

Recent severe storms along the coast have been eroding the beach front away, causing concern for land owners with beach front property.

Broadbeach walking south to Tweed Heads in the distance. You can walk for miles and miles.
The skyline against a darkening eastern sky.

The beach on a calmer day

Now THAT'S Chutzpah! if it means you can get to the beach, then by all means take the Zimmer frame.
Some interesting architecture included in the scenery
Water warm and wonderful.

This wonderful pink/purple light in the eastern sky came at sunset, which is around 4.45 or so at this time of year (June).
We found some sand sculpture and a distinctly Canadian footprint

From 35 kms to the west, a view of the Gold Coast skyline from up in the mountains.
